Compiled industry figures

The Fashion Returns Index 2026 gathers published figures on fashion ecommerce return rates, costs and market size from other organisations. Each figure links to its original source. Cite the original source for those figures, not us.

How we collect the data

  • Public pages only. We read public storefront data: product feeds, product pages and linked size guides. We use no logins, no orders and no personal data.
  • No store names. We publish aggregate figures, not rankings of named stores. Rendered Fits customers are left out of the category scan.
  • Dated snapshots. Each dataset is a one-day snapshot with its collection date. We do not change old figures; new scans get new files.
  • Stated limits. The samples are not random, and text pattern matching misses some wording. A chart that loads after a click can be invisible to our scan, though shoppers can still see it. Each source page lists its own limits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use these figures in an article or report?

Yes. All datasets on this page are under CC BY 4.0, so you can reuse them, including commercially, as long as you credit Rendered Fits and link to the source page.

Do the datasets name individual stores?

No. We publish aggregate percentages only. We do not publish store-level results.

Are the samples representative of all Shopify stores?

No. The stores come from a market research list of fashion brands, not a random sample, so treat the figures as a description of that group rather than an estimate for all of Shopify.

How often is the data updated?

Each dataset is a dated snapshot. When we run a new scan we publish it as a new file with its own date and keep the old one.
